With almost non-stop laughs and thrills, "The Taking of Pelham 123" is certainly one of the most entertaining hostage movies of the 70s if not one of the most profound

Tense action thriller with a gritty yet still sometimes goofy style. Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw are both good as the cop and criminal, respectfully.

The thrilling nature of this film actual stems more from the complete characters than the action scenes. The villains are genuinely ruthless and terrifying and the heros genuinely humble and courageous and it is that struggle that raises the stakes and makes the film's climactic action sequence work so well.

This is a first-rate, on the edge of your seat movie. The actors and actresses are first rate. You will be wondering what is going to happen next, all the way to the climax of the movie. You will feel for the passengers of Pelham 1-2-3, as they deal with the hijacking of their subway. The hijackers are quite ruthless, and have no reservations about gunning down the passengers with their sub-machine guns; if the passengers don't cooperate. Also, the hijackers don't allow a lot of time for their demands to be met. Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw are fantastic, and the ending is absolutely brilliant!
