Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake kill it together in one of their many onscreen pairings during the 1940s. Its plot of betrayal and vengeance interlaced with wartime intrigue is aided by stylish visuals and a supporting cast that includes Robert Preston as a dedicated cop and Laird Cregar as a facetiously worrisome baddie.

This is pretty good stuff. Veronica Lake & Alan Ladd were paired often together so much because of their great chemistry.
