Whatever Happened to Harold Smith has an interesting premise, but there is simply too much going on for its own good; its biggest problem is that the characters are all enigmas (everyone of them) and one has to wonder what's so great about the girl the boy keeps chasing. It's offbeat, and certainly has its charms (Stephen Fry's performance is hilarious), but it's all a bit much.
