Incredible and unbelievable word fight and intense emotional moments based on the most common defects and weaknesses of the human condition, represented by a dysfunctional marriage and a formal party resulting in disaster. Mike Nichols' best. 95/100

I only gave this 2.5 star, because this type of film, just isn't my cup of tea. However, it's quite powerful. It will make you appreciate everything that you have that is normal in your life. Although, one could ask, "just what is normal?" The film is quite hard to watch, seeing 2 people do nothing but yell and scream at each other, and then drag 2 others into the mix is just not very satisfying. Elizabeth Taylor is amazing as Martha, in fact, all of the acting is great.

A movie that centers on a history professor George (Richard Burton) and an alcoholic wife Martha (Elizabeth Taylor). Nick and Honey visit the odd couple. Best lines: "We never do anything. We never mix." - Martha "There are easier things in this world." - George. Not much going on except for the constant bickering. Wonderful performances from Burton and Taylor. Other than that, I'm in the minority who thought this Best Picture nominee was average.

An intellectual dissection of characters through intense conversation. There's an abundance of rich, angry dialogue and some touches of black comedy. The performances are staggeringly good and I enjoyed Sandy Dennis's convincingly drunk state through the whole film.

I'm not going to say this is a pleasant film, but it's certainly a masterful one that dissects bitter relationships with razor-sharp introspection and dialogue. The performances are wholly embodying as the cast as an ensemble should have won a collective Oscar. Harrowing and terrifying in an everyday life, dramatic way. I can see how this qualifies as a horror film for some.

Four unpleasant and unappealing characters find themselves trapped in an ever-increasingly awkward situation. The two main characters are hosts who yell at and belittle each other, laugh in derision at their gawky guests and disclose unwanted embarrassing information to them. That's entertainment! The hosts are couple Liz and Dick at their best; the words are provided by Edward Albee and the direction is courtesy Mike Nichols. They make the madness mesmerizing.

If this is real life, give me fantasy. I can't believe this film is so highly rated. I guess I'm just not that big a fan of Elizabeth Taylor.

I use to think about this movie as a horror one. The photraphy, the acting (specially from Liz) and the way the shots are made... they're so scary. Plus, it's all during a night... wich gives to the movie a constant opressive atmosphere. Masterpiece.
