Stylish direction by Sydney Pollack doesn't save a rather boring story that should be slick entertainment. Some of the sword fights are cool but it's honestly kind of dull.

For me, this film got better as it went along...The result is an excellent ending, and another great performance by Mitchum. Though not Pollack's best, it is apparent that he made this out of a respectful interest of the Japanese culture. Once past the dull beginning, it is worth checking out.
