Pretty much exactly what you would expect based on the title. I like Clive Barker, and his adaptations tend to be hit-or-miss - but, really, the best reason to watch is to witness a young Bradley Cooper before his acting career really took off - that, and Vinnie Jones brain people with a massive hammer.

Promising start and extremely atmospheric and well-shot. After about the first third, however, the film gets repetitive. When the "big twist" (which any one familiar with the short story will know) comes around, it seems so far out of left field that it's almost laughable and doesn't have the grave impact I'm sure the filmmakers intended.

Right mix of mystery, suspense, bizarre, and a lot of gore to top it off. Well done in all aspects. One of the best Clive Barker adaptations.

This movie was great in that it had a good story line and it kept the audience attention with it's suspense and goreiffic graphis, only the ending was very strange, unexpected and kind of a disappointment. Yet, I would still recommend this one for a gander.

Kitamura's adaption was definitely a worthy Gore fest. And I'm quite stunned with how effective his vision is for this film. The blood and gore levels was just off the roofs. I never knew blood could ever look this good when it's leaving the human body. Seeing the butcher (Vinnie Jones) spreads mayhem firsthand it's just downright bloody hardcore. Although the movie itself was pretty slow to start, once it hits overdrive there's no stopping it. This is certainly a must see for all horror and gore frenzied fanatics out there.

Action: 2/3 + Comedy: 0.5/2 + Good vs Evil: 0.5/1 + Love/Sex: 1/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 + Plot: 0.5/1 + Music: 0/1 = 5/10 or 50%. The idea and what the Midnight Meat Train attempts to pull off is a more interesting discussion than actually watching and sitting through the film. Despite the failure of the film one will be served a variety of horror typicalities which include, but are not limited to: Descent or CHUD like beings who eat the meat from the train, the government involvement of keeping the natural order of things, lots of mallet strikes, people watching themselves get both decapitated and throat slit, the old popping out of the eyeballs, and steak knife through mouth.
