A great thriller where the villain is Earth itself. I really enjoyed this movie and how it was told. M Night Shyamalan has done a great thing, letting the world know that he can be epic and doesn't rely on his "surprise endings" to shock and amaze his audiences. I definitely don't need Shyamalan's endings for me to enjoy his ideas and his stories. I loved this movie.

I come on here and read the reivews for The Happening and I just have to laugh. For some reason people hold Shyamalan to these unmeetable standards with his films. It seems the reviews on here are more interested in making fun of Shyamalan than actually reviewing the film. It's not great, but it's still pretty entertaining. For most of the film I had a really tense feeling and didn't know what was going to happen. Sure, the dialogue is a little clunky at times but it doesn't get in the way. Seriously people, one star? It's not that bad, and you know it.

If your looking for a movie to creep you out, this is a great one. Most of the time the hair on the back of my neck was standing up and it felt like my skin was crawling. But, there is some not-so-good things in this film. Since this is Shyamalan's first rated 'R' movie, I'll be nice. The end of the movie leaves me questioning... What?!?! Seriously, what was the point? So here I am trying to figure out the point but so distracted by all the violent and gruesome scenes. I feel bad for Shyamalan because he seemed to try real hard to make it scary yet entertaining... but I walked out of the theater confused and shaking my head.

What would you get if you have a horrible "R" rated film mixed with terrible scripting? The Happening. This movie was a total waste of my time. Not only was the entire movie predictable... But every time someone spoke, it was like watching a one liner, did you really just say something that retarded kinda movie. Yet another movie M. Night Shyamalan sent down the drain.

Ugh! If I could, that would be all I would write. But I will give the movie more respect than it deserves. The trailers did a great job of creating a sense of curiosity, but the movie especially the ending left you unfulfilled. You still wondered, "What was that all about?" Without giving away the movie, besides the people committing suicide, there was not much action. There was some suspense, but it just seemed dry. It lacked substance. I can't tell you what it was, maybe the acting? The premesis? I don't know. Good Luck when you watch it, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Say you decided, "Hey, gotta have electricity so that I can make my mocha chai latte w/ two pumps vanilla, right?" Then you say, "Hey, nuclear energy is clean. They say it's safe, right?" Wrong. First thing my mom told me, "If [insert childhood classmate] jumped off a bridge, would you?" No. "Think for yourself" should have been the title of this film. So many people came to the movie theater expecting the same old Hollywood-style blockbuster with the daunting music and the "Wait, what's that in the corner?" Shyamalan delivers a slap in the face to society by saying "I'm going to make this so real, you'll be searching on the internet to see if this could really exist". Damn right, Shyamalan. Damn right.

The Happening is about a family on the run after a natural phenomenon takes over much of the east coast. Shyamalan creates a suspense driven atmosphere with his latest film. Some terrifying random suicide scenes and endless on-the-edge moments elevate the film to a whole other level. Likewise to Hitchcock's The Birds, Shyamalan tries to create suspense without much really going on (not as good as The Birds obviously). Even though this film has some stupid, pointless sub-plots (love story was executed poorly), some questionable dialogue at times, and universally seen as an underwhelming conclusion, I can truthfully say I'm one of the few that enjoyed the film, and I don't care who knows it.
