I would not recommend this movie. The acting was great, the concept was somewhat real. But, I think it took place too long ago and with not enough real drama. There was absolutely nothing special about this film. Too much like a play.

This was really a great movie. Every part of it was interesting and engaging. There was not a dull moment in the entire movie. The actors really fit the characters they were portraying. My mother went to Catholic school. So, she constantly analyzing this movie to see if it was as she remembered. I think that, for the most part, it was. You know, minus the corporal punishment.

A interesting film to watch although thinking about it, it loses several things. It is good though thanks to the good performances and the overall look. The problems come from what it is trying to say which it does not really say and probably does not know. Oscar Nominee Best Supporting Actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman 3/5- Hoffman is fairly good as the priest under suspicion, but I did not think he had all of his emotions quite properly. I made my conclusions based on what he did a bit too quickly. Hoffman also gives a performance expected of him which is good but not above a normal performance from him.

I found this movie to mostly dance on the edge of the issue without confronting it. Then there were lots of speeches that allowed the actors to scream. Unfortunately, I felt this was one of Philip Seymour Hoffman's weakest roles in his career. He did not seem to be IN the role, like Capote or any other movies he was in. Amy Adams was okay, but the character was very good.
