In the 21st century, this showbiz insider classic about an aging actress wanting to stay in the limelight is still relevant.

All About Eve has been acclaimed as one of the best Hollywood movies about showbiz, the stage, and the sly competition between celebrities. Sometimes emerging from their own fandom. Bette Davis is good as always and Anne Baxter nails the phony sincerity as the ambitious social climber Eve Harrington. George Sanders has some choice lines as a critic aptly named DeWitt. The film though does move at a slow pace and only towards the last half does it truly become engaging. It is something of a dry sit aside from the two leads and some retrospectively camp moments.

Hypocrisy reaches a new glamorous status in Mankiewicz's marvelous prime opera about ambition, manipulation and psychological catastrophe. The true highlight of this legendary masterpiece of razor-sharp dialogues, unparalleled performances and a top-notch direction is the way our preconceptions and definitions of "climax", "plot development" and "antagonistic character" are completely shattered. Yes, the Academy overreacted (my soul still prefers the cataclysmic meta-film brilliance of Sunset Blvd. [1950]), but the current's film status has lived up to the hype of the present generations. Oh, the beauty of betrayal and Hollywood capitalism! 98/100

Bette Davis is quite good here and there's some witty dialogue, but I just didn't find the movie all that funny.

It's really All About Margo-Bette Davis seethes and simmers with acid wit (her final line is delicious), though Ann Baxter's duplicity hits bullseye at the end. Smart, rapid-fire dialogue

Pretty much a classic film. Great performances, a great script, and a fine example of "how they used to do it." If there's one drawback it's that the film does run a little long, which can be attributed to the conversations that sometimes last too long. However, it's not enough to bring one of the most Oscar-nominated films of all time down. Bette Davis has many good roles to her name, but this is probably her best.

This is Bette Davis' best role. She's mostly viper, but with a touch of vulnerability. The great cast (don't forget George Sanders and Thelma Ritter!) is led along by one of the best screenplays ever written.

Bette Davis and Anne Baxter portray two fully-formed characters. The awesome part of this movie is seeing the convergence of the two's objectives and the sheer dominance of Davis whenever she is on screen.

A fairly good film about show business although not nearly as good as sunset boulevard. I t is interesting to see all the actions of the various well established characters of the women. The men are not nearly as well drawn besides the the seedy critic played well by George Sanders. The two men just do not have enough to say or to do to be anyone although. The women characters are all interesting with each of their individual ideas and plans. Although Eve may have been a bit too bizarre for realism.
