What elevates this movie above being labeled yet another period film (or much worse, another one of those sub-par "Christian" movies) is the depiction of true heroism in the face of adversity and unpopularity. Powerful pro-life parallels with quality performances and direction.

GREAT FILM! Living in the USA, I didn't know much about the abolition of slavery in the British Isles. This film was insightful as well as entertaining an susenseful. Highly recommend.

A true story about a troubled, unflinching soul. William Wilburforce's plight to end the British slave trade in Parliament sounds like a snoozer. It is anything but that. Ioan Gruffudd's performance as Wilburforce draws the viewer into the struggle. You know that there will be a happy ending but you still feel a sense of accomplishment at the end. You appreciate and share in Wilburforce's struggle and you appreciate and share in his final glory.
