Scholars and everyday people have long wondered why the Mayan calendar suddenly ends on 12/21/12. This movie has amazing visual effect's but the movie lacks on story and acting.

Good special effects. Way better in theaters.

The disaster movie to out 'disaster' them all. Huge catastrophes in an empty movie. It's an hour and a half too long and it becomes boring after the halfway mark.

Roland Emmerich, the mad German sub-genius behind such mindless imperial crapulence as Godzilla and Independence Day, has concocted another deathly disaster brow that he has imaginatively entitled '2012', an underwhelming roller-coaster ride of explosions, abysmal acting, generic action music, subversive physics, pedestrian dialogue, and infantile intelligence.

Seeing the world destroyed in titanic freak calamity is frightening for about ten minutes. Once the film stops impressing with expensive special effects, you realize that the paper-thin characters and scientific mumbo jumbo can't support a bloated film which spans over two hours, when it could easily have been half that.

I loved the catastrophe, but they just never make movies clean anymore. Wonderful acting however.

this movie is so bad it's funny--it feels like a spoof on adventure/catastrophe films. The only reason I gave it more than one star is because of the special effects and the creativity of the scenario.

It's probably useless to review this movie, as it's only real story is that the world ends in 2012. Really, all it is is an excuse to show mass CGI destruction around an idea that isn't true. Did you know that when the state of California falls around you, you can outrun it with a limo and everything collapses just after you go over it? Did you know you get great cell phone reception when a tidal wave is about to kill you? Oh yeah, and you can also outrun a volcanic cloud from Yellowstone that somehow makes it to DC before it gets to Vegas. Go see The Day After Tomorrow, that one at least knew that it was out there but actually tried to make sense.

This film entertains but it does not leave much of a lasting impression. Story line is cliche as thy come for these survival type movies, man reconnects with his family via tragedy surviving impossible situations time and time again and it's muddled with the used up OMG what a coincidence the main characters all somehow know each other crap. CGI was excellent John Cusack really was the main thing making the movie watchable and is impossible to kill apparently... good thing for John Cusack, bad thing for Joan Cusack who is then doomed to be the least successful one forever.

R. Emmerich usually entertains me, but not this time. The movie is very similar to day after tomorrow, so the inpact of de CGI is lesser than what i would have expected. Way too long. Not a good movie at all.
