The origin story that wasn't
MikeInMotion - wrote on 02/23/2012
There were 3 X-Men films before X-Men Origins: Wolverine, each one starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Those X-Men films gave us very little background information on where Wolverine came from and how he became the person he was, so people naturally wanted to know more about this great characters origin. This leads us to the creation of this film, one that will supposedly flesh out this character’s mysterious background, and answer all the questions we may have had about him. Although this seems like a great idea in theory, it is not executed nearly as well as it could have been, and ultimately wastes a lot of potential.
The film begins by showing a little boy named James Howlett (Wolverine), who witnesses his father get killed by an unknown man who came barging into his house. This …

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" by Yojimbo

A mutant with a healing factor that makes him virtually unkillable volunteers for an experiment that will transform him into "Weapon X" to revenge himself on the brother who murdered his sweetheart. Yes, that's the plot to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Shit, isn't it? It follows the usual blockbuster formula of montage, action sequence, montage, action sequence, montage, action sequence in a way that made me think that the franchise has become a victim of its own success; in the best examples of the comic stories, the extreme violence Wolverine perpetrates is merely alluded to and hinted at through images of the bloody aftermath. Here you have Logan gutting people with razor sharp claws and yet never managing to spill a drop of blood. Funny, that. In its desperation to appeal to mainstream, …

Must see.

This is the first X-Men film that I have really watched so I cannot compare it to the other X-Men films, but I though it was amazing. Well done to the talented director Gavin Hood who I have a soft spot for, because he is South African and he makes amazing films like Rendition. The acting was great, the superpowers were super awesome, the cast was great and the plot was exciting and not predictable. Girls, a great reason to watch this film is that once again Hugh Jackman is totally mesmerizing in his performance and physical presence. The entire experience was great. The growth of the plot was strong as well as the growth of the complex character. It really is a great fim. The cinematography was spot on and the effects were good. I think this film was great and is a must see.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a Mr. E Movie Review
(Run time: 107 min. - Directed by: Gavin Hood - Starring: Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Will i Am, Ryan Reynolds)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, directed by Gavin Hood, ended up being exactly what I was looking for in an action, super hero movie! I mean of course we all know Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but, what about Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed a.k.a. Sabertooth! These guys kicked up this flick so high that there's no way you'll be let down! And, if you only sort of like comic books you are still going to love this hot, visually stunning, character-filled film!
Here's the quick rundown...after Wolverine's father is killed by Victor's father he snaps and takes revenge killing the man and finding out he's really his …

A Good Way to Start Summer Blockbuster

Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is the first in line to get his own spin-off from the highly popular “X-Men” franchise. Though I must admit that it could have been a lot stronger, I was entertained for more than half of the time so I’m ultimately giving it a recommendation. I thought the way that the film started off was solid: a sickly little boy named Logan (who will eventually be named Wolverine) stumbles upon a shocking revelation regarding his bloodline. From then on, the opening credits feature Logan and his brother Victor Creed (who will eventually be named Sabretooth played with intimidating ferociousness by Liev Schreiber) fighting side-by-side in several wars. The two soon team up with William Stryker (Danny Huston) in a government task force consisting of people with strange …

Weapon X was co-opted by every American War

After being slammed in pre-release reviews, Wolverine, it appears, is not invulnerable. But is the movie really as bad as they say?
Compared to X-men movies, yes, Wolverine is sub-par. But that's setting the bar pretty high. On the full spectrum of comic book movies, Wolverine is just mediocre.
So what's the problem? Bad direction and a worse script. Action with too many bullets and not enough mutant abilities. Plot holes and a politics of subversion that tries to live up to the standards of the trilogy but just doesn't make sense.
In the end, the movie is a bit confusing for initiates and too . . . empty for the hardcore fans. Marvel would be wise to just forget about this one and try making it again -- it worked for the Hulk!

Wolverine: No Cut Above

Thursday morning started off like any other morning. Nothing too special….Woke up, did my regular morning routine, and walked out the door for work. However, that morning there was something on the wind as the morning breeze rushed past my face. It was the hint of the Summer movie season. It hit me that in less than twenty-four hours I would be sitting in a movie theater enjoying the midnight showing of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Before the film was even released Jackman and company had an uphill slope to climb. The most pressing was the leaked version of the film that found its way onto the Internet at the end of March. Fox released a statement shortly afterwards stating that the film was without many special effects, had missing & unedited scenes, and temporary sound & music. …

Clawing Out an Origin

Summer movie season seems to get earlier and earlier every year. While Wolverine doesn't have the impact of say an Iron Man or Dark Knight, you can definitely tell this officially kicks off the summer.
Hugh Jackman once again takes up the mantle of everyone's favorite cigar-chomping, bub-dropping somewhat anti-hero. Before he gets nigh indestructible, we see him as a sickly child, snapshots of all the major wars and finally a mutant mercenary - before he becomes a quiet family man (albeit with some intense nightmares).
Joining him along for the ride is a very dark Liev Schreiber, playing the animalistic Sabertooth with much malice. This is a more cerebral and evil Sabertooth than Tyler Mane's in the original X-men. I think the right choice was made. The sparks that fly when the two …

Unleash the Beast

Since the beginning of the X-men movies we all know we wouldn't be as crazy about it if Wolverine wasn't there. And since then we all wanted to see how far Jackman would take the role and make us diehard fans satisfied. By now I could definitely say I'm satisfied. I can also say that this is the kind of closure to a saga I've been wanting to see since seeing Jackman bring this beast to life. See I've always liked him as Wolverine but when he remove those claws and start singing Broadway, it's not a pretty sight. Well the movie in my opinion is definitely worth the wait. Jackman embodies this character with his heart and soul and brings just the right balance between the character's sanity and his animalistic rage. The fight scenes were quite impressive. Not to mention Sabertooth was also …
