Gene Kelly is at his most exuberant and charismatic here. He, and the other players, provide ample entertainment through song and dance. It's a fun, upbeat watch. The only thing keeping it from greatness is the so-so romance. I would've gave it even more of a pass, if not for the rushed closure.

The ballet dance piece in the middle of the film to Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" cements this film as a visual masterpiece. Some of my favorite choreography and set pieces are on display here.

I am usually interested in musicals, especially the ones that are in the AFI top 100. This film is not deserving. The relationship that is built between Gene Kelly and his female co star is lackluster at best. Maybe it was my mood?
