For the love of Zombies!

Although having seen this film multiple times since it's initial viewing back in '09 I just found this zombie fest for 10 bucks brand new on Blu Ray at my local Target store...so I found a review was in order.

For those that are fans of Amc's The Walking Dead and current members of Zombienation and have yet to see this film I have one question fer ya?... What are you waiting for? This movie backed with a pounding yet stellar soundtrack which opens with one of my favorite tracks by one of my favorite bands Metallica (For Whom The Bell Tolls) right away envelops into once again living life in a zombie apocalypse. This time the zombie mutant virus was brought along via The Mad Cow disease epidemic.

Enter Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) an unaffected College student who is trekking …

"Zombieland" by Yojimbo

A repressed computer geek teams up with a gun toting redneck and a pair of con artists to escape the horde of zombies that now populate the country. Zombieland feels all the world like one of those American remakes of a successful British project, namely Shaun Of The Dead. A team of US marketing "experts" took the idea and threw out any references to British indie music and replaced it with Willie Nelson and screaming metal guitar solos, threw out the slackers and replaced them with the ubiquitous comedy trailer trash and neurotic nerd stereotypes and threw out the old school shambling zombies and replaced them with gore riddled, hyperactive speed freaks that have unfortunately come to replace them. The result is My Name Is Earl with the undead and it's a bit like Zack Snyder's make over …

"Columbus" (Jesse Eisenberg) bumps into "Tallahassee" (Woody Harrelson) in an attempt to see if his parents are still alive in Ohio. They both were fooled by conniving "Wichita" (Emma Stone) and "Little Rock" (Abigail Breslin). It’s a fun zombie comedy movie that you can enjoy the journey instead of its destination. Filled with action and a surprising cameo from Bill Murray adds to this good cast. Harrelson was impressive and Eisenberg brought in the heart. The soundtrack and cinematography was good, the screenplay exceptional with lines from Tallahassee – “You've got to enjoy the little things” Columbus – “It's amazing how fast the world can go from bad to total shit storm.” A flick about survival, trust and friendship, Zombieland delivers the humor and scares, …

So, it's a zombie comedy. The apocalypse. A few people survive and find each other, forming an unlikely army against zombies. There's a lot of gore. Some romance. Basically, it's that old joke about quirky people and zombies that you saw in Shawn of the Dead and probably lots of other places. Nerdy kids battling zombies...oh hahahaha!

Whatever, I'm over it.

Also, the humor wasn't up to par. It was rough draft jokes. Like, they chose their jokes during the first brainstorming idea, without trying to make them funnier. Like the line, "I haven't cried this hard since Titanic!" Uh...Titanic? SO the obvious choice. It should have been something random that the character wouldn't have even seen...like....Two Weeks Notice with Sandra Bullock. Or...Dan In Real Life. You know, something …

Every So Often you get a beautiful work of art like The Mona Lisa(Up in the Air,The Hurt Locker) then you get that mutilated work of art with no appendages(Zombieland) still beautiful but disturbing at the same time. Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone compliment each other well in this film and really no how to play of each other's strengths. I have to say I am not a fan of White Men Can't Jump and found Harrelson's character one of the least likable of all the character's in No Country for Old Men. He finally managed to win me over in this movie with his role as a Zombie killing BA. Abigail Breslin also did a fine job for more of a mature role she is not normally accustomed to. The movie had all the Zombie craziness yet still managed to not repeal the audience like normal Zombie movies do. …

I'm a sucker for Zombie films, who isn't. The Noughties saw an absolute explosion of movies featuring the undead, Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead. Diary of the Dead, Land of the Dead, 28 Days Later. 28 Weeks Later, hey I even liked the Resident Evil films (well the first two anyways).
The accolade of the highest grossing Zombie film of all time though goes to Zombieland, a light hearted excursion to the end of the world which happens to be funny, fast paced and surprisingly savvy. Eschewing any real scares and making full impact of the gore on show, Zombieland introduces the audience to characters who are actually likable (not always the case in Zombie flicks) and because of this we don't want to see them get eaten (usually the case in Zombie flicks).
A great cast seem to be having …

Woody Harelson is amazing in this. This really dehumanizes the whole Zombie apocalypse thing we've gotten so used to we can't even fear anymore. Billy Murry was a great surprise though surprisingly very unbelivable in his part. I honestly cannot believe what an amazing actress Abigail Breslin is turning out to be, why she was young in this part her acting ability is years past her age, if any even are able to come to her level. She has a very bright future ahead of her and this part shows why. The movie is funny, mainly for it's rules aspect and I think while being a comedy it's not so over the top as you cannot imagine that if there was to be a zombie hoard this is not exactly what you would be doing. While being a comedy it also makes the all too old zombie tale alot more rateable. …

"Zombieland" is such a fantastic ride, it is hard to find fault with it. The first five minutes with the opening sequence and credits set up the exact style of this film. You know right off the bat that it's funny, quirky, scary, gory, and a new bend on an old idea. It is a wonderful black comedy, so much so, that you will be hard pressed to predict moment after moment. Seldom is violence so entertaining. Other than Nazis, zombies are the perfect enemy. They live, only to kill, completely devoid of any positive trait. So, watching shot after shot of zombies getting their comeuppance is satisfying on a colossal scale. The main characters (played by Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin) are constantly finding new ways to kill, dismember, squash, and destroy …

Zombieland Review

Zombieland is one of the best zombie films ever made. I know it's a comedy and most people would say it can't be because zombies are made to scare. Don't get me wrong there's tons of good zombie movies and there's also tons of bad ones. It's the ones that will be remember that are good and i'll tell you many years down the road people will still remember Zombieland. Hell it deseves a sequel it was amazing. I was a little worried about this movie at first because I heard Woody Harrelson was going to be in it. I like Woody but for awhile he wasen't doing much so I was unsure. But this movie was a knockout blast fun thrill ride. You felt for the characters. Laughing, crying, mad or sad you felt for the charactors Jesse Eisenberg was funny really funny. I loved his part. His scenes with …
