Everything You Want

Nick - wrote on 05/08/2012

The Avengers starts off the blockbuster season a complete success. With such a big build up, with trailers and blips for it coming out more than a year in advance, it had big shoes to fill. All the movies leading up to the Avengers were average super hero movies, but The Avengers brings it all together into a movie that meets, and exceeds, expectations. The movie has everything you want, great effects and CGI, plenty of humor, great build up and climax, and even much enjoyed quarrels between characters. If you liked Iron Man, this movie brings in all the same great humor. If you liked the God of Thunder, Thor brings his hammer and uses it with vengeance. If you hated The Hulk, you will find he is a good addition to The Avengers despite his sub-par movie. It has been quite a while …

Near Perfect Super Hero Film

mitchellyoung - wrote on 05/07/2012

SPOILERS AHEAD My one complaint with the Avengers is that I felt it built too slowly - that the first act moved at a snail's pace, compared with the rest of the film. In retrospect, I think this is party due to my own impatience; I knew the awesomeness that was to come from a teaming of some of Marvel's most iconic heroes, and I wanted to get straight to the action. That's about the only complaint I can summon. The Avengers is pretty much the perfect super hero film. It's loud, unapologetic, sometimes silly, and displays a distinct love and knowledge of the source material. Every hero is given his or her moment to shine and their personalities, clearly defined by preceding films, are given full reign to clash and collide. Seeing Tony Stark fire off one-liners against the …

Heroic Effort Succeeds

When it comes to ensemble casts, just getting a lot of big names together does not equal success. If your story and characters aren't as compelling as the names going along with them, you'll wind up with New Year's Day. Lucky for us, Joss Whedon has a great history of making compelling stories out of great ensemble casts: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly prove that. But a big-budget, comic book film is a lot different than a TV series - but Whedon has just as much success on the big screen as he had on the small one, and it makes The Avengers one of the most fun and entertaining films out of the large amount of comic heroes out there.

All the elements come together - S.H.I.E.L.D. is looking to unlock the secrets of the Tesseract - the cosmic cube with the possibility to provide …

Avengers Assemble!!!

MikePA - wrote on 05/05/2012

The Avengers is the long-awaited Marvel superhero film since it was announced after the credits in the first Iron Man film. The previous installments leading to the grand beast that is The Avengers were Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Thor. The heroes are, in case you don't already know, are Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and they're all brought together as a team by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. They're mission is, basically, to stop Thor's evil brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleson), from taking over the world.

I really, really liked The Avengers. I didn't seem to love and …

Fun and Good Watch

When Loki comes back to the Earth and threatens the world, the S.H.I.EL.D agency leans to the Super Heroes, composing Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow, who call themselves The Avengers.

***

I wasn't expecting that much from this film before watching it, I expected an imbalance screen time for every super hero, and it kinda happened. Iron Man and Captain America seemed to get more screen time than the others, BUT I must say that with good direction of the film, the other avengers get enough time to establish their characters. Hawkeye is my favorite. It is good also that Loki is the first antagonist of this power house set of protagonists, I was drawn to Loki's character since I saw Thor.

I liked Robert Downey here, and of course, Tom …

The Avengers review

I was fortunate to see this on Imax 3D with much amazement. This is not your average superhero picture. Make sure you see this until the end credits for a small peak at something for Marvel/superhero fanatics/. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. assembles the confident Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), noble Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a great leader in Captain America (Chris Evans), and the indestructible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow aid the team in saving the world from the malicious agenda Loki (of Tom Hiddleston). Screenplay was well written with memorable lines: Fury – “The world has changed.” “I still believed in heroes.” Capt. America – “There is only one …
