Cpt. Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) comes home from Afghanistan while his wife Grace (Natalie Portman) think he passed away. Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Grace have a special bond one night and Sam discovers it. The main leads perform solidly, the score was decent and cinematography well though of. Tobey Maguire was magnificent, Natalie Portman was electric and Jake Gyllenhaal subtle. Its story was simple and there were a few unnecessary scenes. Brothers is a really good drama with a few memorable life quotes to ponder on.

the first time i saw this movie, i loved it. but after seeing it the second and third time, i liked it but wasnt as impressed as i was the first time. the story line was a pretty good idea, and going into it, i was questioning tobey maguire as the lead role, but he deifnitely pulled it off in the end. all in all it was a good movie worth seeing

I liked the premise, but the movie itself is dry of emotion and the conflict between characters seems forced.

Heavy on the melodramatic side, this movie is about a presumed dead soldier that turns up alive only to believe his brother has replaced him with his family. The three leads - Gyllenhaal, Portman, and Maguire - really give it their all and try hard but sadly there's too many moments where the movie either plays like a soap opera or a Lifetime movie. Plus, the lighting is terrible and for most of the movie I was squinting at the TV trying to make out what I was looking at because everything was so dark.

very good movie, one of the best in year. a must see. much more better than movies in oscar race, such as "blind side" or "an education" or " a serious man" . Brothers is very very good movie. 3 beautiful actor gives a really good and honest performance. i never like tobey maguire and jake gyllenhall like this before. they were very good and natalie protman as well. highly suggest.

This movie was intense. Maguire dominates on camera as the psychologically wounded war hero. Portman and Gyllenhaal are a great supporting cast. They are all incredible actors. The ending also isn't very obvious, which I always appreciate. There's no twist, but you can not necessarily say, "I know what's going to happen." I would definitely recommend this to anyone. Very good movie.
