Freddy's back? Well, not really.

When I heard A Nightmare on Elm Street was getting a remake I managed to keep an open mind. I'm not of the school of thought that all remakes are terrible. Still, even though the original series ended up becoming more dark comedy later in its run, the original movie is hard to beat. This one is significantly darker than the original putting a lot more focus on the pedophile aspect of the villain and throwing in some child pornography to boot. So I will say the character of Freddy is more menacing. Jackie Earl Haley wasn't terrible but for me he wasn't Freddy. Plus, I felt like the cast playing the teens weren't as strong as they should have been. I might watch it again at some point and give it another chance but overall I just felt like the original is more worth my time.

Rorschach with a different mask

This movie is worth watching only because Jackie Earle Haley is awesome in the role. There's a lot of debate over who's better, Haley or Englund, but in my opinion they are two different characters with burned faces, a claw and a sweet sweater and hat ensemble. The new Freddy is portrayed as a creepy pedophile who comes back to massacre the kids who got him killed while the old Freddy was a child murderer who got off on a technicality and was burned alive. This movie, like all the unnecessary Michael Bay remakes, focuses too much on jump scares, pretty victims and jump scares as well as a few jump scares tossed in for good measure. It's not scary, but Haley is scary and creepy. Personally i wish they'd just make an Elm street movie where Freddy just slaughters tons of people. That's what …

Even Nightmares Can Become Dull

Directed by Samuel Bayer
Starring Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Rooney Mara, Kellan Lutz, and Jackie Earle Haley

This re-imagining of the popular horror classic is not bad nor is it good. I personally was never bored throughout the film but it did suffer from some major problems. This film severely lacked creativity which made the dream sequences feel slightly dull and seem a bit uninteresting. The characters are a bit one dimensional but that is expected from horror films, and ultimately this film offers nothing new that the original films didn't already deliver. Despite those flaws, I have to admit that I was entertained by this film. As far as remakes go, this film was far more impressive than I expected it to be. Some of the cast members were quite good while others …

See you again soon Freddie!

The horror genre is one that produces many films which are classically predictable, especially if that film is a remake like “A Nightmare On Elm Street”. There is absolutely no reason why this film had to have been remade. There are definitely some differences between the original and the remake, but the differences of the remake are nothing of great importance. However, horror fans will flock to see this film just for the love of Freddie Krueger. As much as they will love seeing the man back on the big screen, they will surely be disappointed by his new look. The film begins with the first victim, Dean (Twilight heart throb Kellan Lutz)being killed in his sleep in front of his friends in a diner. Several of his friends start experiencing the same nightmares Dean complained of …

A Nightmare on Elm Street Review

So another year, another Platinum Dunes remake. This time we see a contemporary reimagining of A Nightmare on Elm Street. I myself have seen four of Platinum Dunes' films prior to this one. I saw the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which was pretty good, I saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning which was okay but didn't feel like a very necessary explanation story, I saw the Friday the 13th remake which I know people will give me hate for this, but I liked this one better than the original Friday the 13th, and I saw The Unborn… which needless to say this film does live up to its name as an abortion of a film. And now we get to see Samuel Bayer's new take on A Nightmare on Elm Street. If you don't know Samuel Bayer, he's a music video director who began work in 1991 when …

Alright: let me start by telling you my hopes for the film upon seeing the trailer, and then I'll go on to tell you what I got.
I was expecting a new, interesting take on the story, not simply a remake. A story that Wes Craven could not give justice back in the whenever the original was made, so they were going to take the whole being afraid of things in your dreams thing and make it actually scary. I wasn't expecting too much jumping out and scary moments, but I was expecting something with substance, with terrifying realities coming to life. A performance by Jackie Earle Haley was expected to blow my mind and the teenagers, I was hoping would be more or less nearer to Rob Zombie's "Halloween" films.
What I received was an overly-cliched, under-acted, under-scripted simple remake …

Nightmare on Elm Street

Here comes a rant:
The film opens with a cliched credit sequence, while a score that sounds straight out of the sixth sense tickles my ears. Its all very polite and non-threatening, and this is how it starts? For god's sake, this is a horror film, scare me please for the love of god. Use noises and music to evoke some kind of terrifying atmosphere.
Then the acting starts, these non-actors with their over rehearsed lines of dialogue, i mean, they say it as if their very lives depended on it, and its absolutely horrid, really takes you out of any suspense or feelings of dread.
Remember in the originals, the Halloweens, the original Nightmares, The Chainsaw Massacres? Micheal Myers, Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, these guys were monsters, evil to their very core, but here yet again, we …

A Nightmare On Elm Street(Remake)

This is what i'm talking about a good remake to a legend. Jackie Earle Haley did amazingly well as Freddy Krueger adding his own twist to the character, no disrespect to Robert Englund at all he will forever be Freddy. I love this movie some will hate it some will love it. Mostly it's the critics who hate it. The picture quality was great also love the camera work and effects. The dreams were awesome I wanted this movie to be longer couldn't get enough of it. Kyle Gallner was amazing which I expected him to be cause he was in Haunting In Connecticut. Rooney Mara was great as Nancy loved her performance as well. As for the rest of the cast they were great fit in well and did good with what they had to work with. I recommand this to people that are fans of Freddy if you can expect minor …
