"Salt" by Yojimbo

When an alleged KGB defector accuses one of the CIA's top operatives of being a sleeper agent, she goes rogue with her former colleagues in hot pursuit. Salt is exactly what you'd expect it to be; a star vehicle for Angelina Jolie that's distinctly lacking in imagination but executed with mechanical efficiency. The plot seems very old fashioned, revolving as it is around the Cold War which seems a long time behind us to the point where having Russian bad guys seems almost quaint. It's pretty much just a flimsy collection of spy mumbo jumbo to make excuses for the next car chase/gun fight and our heroine gamely throws herself into the fray with aplomb. It does at least a couple of twists that make the story slightly less predictable but Salt is pretty much a by-the-numbers Bourne clone …

Angelina Jolie stars as Agent Evelyn Salt, the CIA operative accused of being a spy for Russia with plans on killing the Russian president to set off a world war. With Counter-Intelligence Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and her boss Ted Winter (Liev Schreiber) wanting her for questioning Salt has to go on the run from the CIA and kicks ass without staining her pristine white shirt to prove that she's not a traitor. The movie raises the question: who is Salt? Is she a fugitive out to save or kill the Russian President herself?
Guys are sure to enjoy this with close-ups of Jolie's stunning looks and watching her run, leap, fight bound over cars, people, trucks, and subway turnstiles and blow things up to avoid capture by CIA spy guys who quickly turn on her in the name of National …

Pass The Salt

While watching this film, I had a huge sense of déjà vu. In trying to craft something original, writer, Kurt Wimmer (‘Law Abiding Citizen’, ‘The Recruit’) manages to do everything but. The whole plot smacks of everything from ‘The Bourne Identity’ to ‘The Boys From Brazil’. The real notion of people not always being what they seem gets lost in all the intrigue, chase scenes and ensuing mayhem. Director, Phillip Noyce (‘Rabbit-Proof Fence’, ‘The Bone Collector’) seems more intent on meeting his quota of body counts, crashes, and other special effects than focusing on any effort at real character development.
As Evelyn Salt, Angelina Jolie is once again (dare I say type-) cast as an action figure. While I’d be lying if I said she wasn’t interesting to watch …

Lara Croft dexterity meets Bourne. Angelina Jolie is Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent accused of being a Russian spy. The confusing plot just overshadowed the direction and action sequences. This film could have been better with the right script and ending. Maybe they are playing it safe to make this into a franchise much like the success of the Bourne series. Good action movie from a decent popcorn flick.

Good Action, Bad Plot

This is the movie that never ends. Not as bad as that cheesy song you hear when growing up. Never-ending movies are still somewhat lame.
In this epic story of CIA agent Salt, the Russians are trying to blow up other countries to try and get the US in to trouble. With this they have to throw in a few ties to the Cold War, and other related stuff. So how is the plot continuing, even after the credits roll? Because Philip Noyce couldn't decide which plot he wanted to go with. He did a decent job building suspense with "Where's my husband?" and the "I'm innocent" stuff to eventually climax at "Okay, she's trying to kill the Russian president." After that, it went down hill for me. It eventually became "Hi, welcome back to the family of grown-up, brainwashed children that you grew up …

Who Is Salt?

“Who Is Salt?” The perfect tagline and the question that bugs you for 100 minutes through “Salt” and will for days after you have seen it. It is so refreshing to see a smart action film, one that combines great special effects, a smart script and a tough female lead. It is rare that an action film will challenge you so psychologically and rely solely on special effects and bomb blasts to move the film along and keep the audience entertained. Not to say that these aspects of the film aren’t entertaining or hurt the film, because they certainly do not. Evelyn Salt. She’s a CIA agent who is blissfully married to an arachnologist. Or is she who the strange Russian man who has turned himself into the CIA says she is, a Russian spy who is on a mission to kill the Russian president? …
