Patton Oswalt, in an unprecedented leading role, keeps this unnaturally difficult sports comedy-drama grounded as it explores complicated themes.

Fortunately, I had nearly a full bottle of red wine in me, which made this movie bearable, but still barely interesting. Besides the breasts on Oswalt's sister-in-law, nothing in this movie was memorable, granted the ending was a bit of a surprise. Oswalt himself was only convincing during his numerous masturbation scenes, well that, and that he still lived at home in his thirties with his Mother (which I believe he still may in real life).

Patton Oswalt puts obsession on a pedestal and his performance is a worthy one. Devotion to anything can be taken a bit too far, and this has a very Taxi Driver-like feel to it - even up to the semi-shocking end. Watch it for Oswalt and let it stew in your head.
