This is a common story - singer/songwriter was famous, not anymore because of booze. However, Jeff Bridges did such an excellent job that I was able to overlook an overdone theme because of his acting. There was also an unexpected ending, much more realistic than the usual endings for these kinds of moves. Robert Duvall had a very small part, but brilliant as usual.

Although it treads familiar territory, I really don't care because Crazy Heart is so well done that it's easily one of the most effective and satisfying films of its kind in years. The performances are great; Maggie Gyllenhaal is great (as usual), well deserving of her Oscar nom., and Jeff Bridges is brilliant and completely deserved his Oscar for Best Actor. Also, two key supporting characters played by Robert Duvall and Colin Farrell really knock the film out of park. Solid script, great music, perfect cast, Crazy Heart is one of the best films of 2009.

Crazy Heart is a fantastic story of redemption that doesn't try to overstep the bounds of its story. Jeff Bridges' character slowly regains the spotlight of his former music career, but only so much, and the film doesn't shoot for the stars, content to focus on the (much better) scenes of Bridges' relationships along the way. The gruff and ornery country music legend reveals a different side of the usually zen Bridges, but the film also benefits from strong supporting performances from Gyllenhaal and Colin Farrell. The soundtrack, helmed by a brilliant song from Ryan Bingham, is also a true standout.

The cast of Crazy Heart offers a clinic in "How To" and everyone should take note. The story has been done a million times, and everyone has heard this tune before. What's new is the heartfelt portraits from Bridges, who finally gets his Oscar, and especially Gyllenhaal who makes crying and genuine, strong feminism appear as easy as blinking. Such drama will be lost on most everyone, for there's only one crash scene and not much blood or violence, but that odd thing everyone in the cast keeps doing may also mezmerize the gaming hords: actual acting.

Surprisingly OK. Bridges wasn't as good as everyone said he was. Didn't he just act like himself - and act like The Dude? A nice little movie. If you love music, you owe to yourself to check it out. If you don't, this might not be for you.

A lot has been written about Jeff Bridges' performance, it was great, enough said. Taking the movie as a whole, it was good, but I find it hard to believe that a young, good-looking girl like Maggie Gyllenhaal would fall for Bad Blake. I'm just not buying it. I thought the better story-line to persue would've been the relationship between Bad Blake and Tommy Sweet. Overall, it was entertaining but predictable with one great performance. I still thought Clooney's role in Up in the Air was better and he should've won the Oscar. But as I stated above, Bridges was great congrats to him.

Jeff Bridges' character is a lot like his in the Big Lebowski: drunk, lazy, and irresponsible.... I loved it!

This was one of the great movies of the year. Jeff Bridges was brilliant in the role of a borken duwn drunk, and the supporting cast was solid as well. The story was well written and kept the viewer interested throughout. The music also added a nice touch. Overall, I would highly recommend this film as a must see.
