Steamy redux of 1940s film noirs such as Double Indemnity (which it's practically the same movie). Kathleen Turner is decent but I think William Hurt gave an underrated performance as an unsuspecting patsy.

The boiling chemistry between Hurt and Turner is hot enough to put steam on the camera lens. "Body Heat" made film noir hip again by updating it with a fresh 80s erotic thriller pastiche.

Body Heat's biggest problem is its stratospheric level of genre evocation. It isn't so much neo-noir as candy sampler noir, a model displayed in the window front of some cavernous department store of genre, clean and neatly arranged and lacking any personal touch. Its studied academia toward the dialogue and staples of its inspirations deny it an edge, indeed even a soupcon of spontaneity. The meditative pace can be relished, and the cinematography is generally aesthetically pleasing, but Kasdan has about as much interest in making this film investing as William Hurt has being charismatic.

More famous for it's then shocking sex scenes, this is actually a quality noir thriller with a decent twist in the tale. The rather limited Kathleen Turner has never been better as the femme fatale.

Body Heat...Florida. China Moon...Florida. Body Heat...woman wants husband dead and somebody framed. China Moon...ditto. Both of the framed men are in the legal profession (lawyer, cop). Coincidence or...?

Some of the drama and noir elements really work here and some don't. Sadly, most don't.

This was on HBO about 100 times in the late 90's. I watched it more than once even though at the time I didn't like it. It grows on you. Though not incredible, it is good to see a Noir out once in a while.
