Mel Gibson's vision as a director knows few limitations, even if the story in his hyper-violent, semi-fictionalized war epic about the Scottish revolutionary is sort of shallow and cartoonish.

It took me almost 20 years to see this Best Picture winner and, I admit, I should have seen it sooner. A great film about William Wallace, Scottish freedom fighter. The acting is great, even if Mel Gibson does go in and out of his accent quite often. The Horner score was good, in fact it was sometimes overpowering. But, what I liked most about the film, was the fact that it's 3 hour running time didn't feel like it. I have a rule, that most films should need permission to go over 90 minutes, much less, be 2 or even 3 hours, but this one passed the test. Again, a must see!

Braveheart is a rousing adventure film that tells a truly epic tale of heroism and strength. The film is inspiring in the best possible way and features some stunning brutal battle sequences. The love story that anchors the film is, at times, a little trite, but the film's powerful climax makes it a war film to remember for ages in cinematic history.

A view into history. Poor against rich, weak against strong, oppressed against oppressor... This is how it goes in the world.

Mel Gibson directs and stars in the best historical epic of all time. The movie is a powerhouse in every department. Mel Gibson delivers a fine central performance and the supporting cast is terrific. The battle scenes are graphic and gruesome and extremely intense and realistic. The cinematography and sweeping musical score by James Horner are perfect. The movie also packs an emotion whallop. It deservedly won Best Picture in 1995 and Gibson also won the Best Director Oscar. A great movie.

I know. Not giving this 4 stars may seem like some kind of man-blasphemy, but all the bloody battle shots were a little off-putting in my opinion. It's still a great story, rousing your sense of brotherhood and making you want to cry "FREEDOM!!!"
