Very mature and interesting, it's a neo-noir flick that's original, straight forward, and really rethinks high school life.

IF you can accept that Brick is a film about a bunch of high schoolers involved in their own drug trade, you'll love the film. If you try to use logic and disregard the seemingly implausible plot than you'll find the film tortuous. I for one loved the film and thought it was unbelievably believable. The kids are great and Rian Johnson directs with confidence and style. Absolutely amazing!

Nice try...but it didn't work. I get where the Director was attempting to go with this, however it just did not work for me on any level. The movie tries way too hard to be "COOL" and mix new age with noir and fails miserably.

A create directorial debut that envisions a drug and crime-ridden high school environment through the eyes of the film noir genre. Though the film works hard to create a dark and moody atmosphere, it also has some unsettling "coming of age" themes to back up its style.

One of the most satisfying indie films I've seen recently. Plays just like the crime films of the 50's, but with a new edge. Everything is top notch, especially the directing and Gordon-Levitt's acting. Highly enjoyable.

"Brick" is a modern film noir at its very best, implementing some of the best intricacies of a whodunnit with the powerful performances of one of the best actors of his generation, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. However, the real juicy stuff of this movie comes from the way it was written and directed by Rian Johnson, who was able to make a crime murder mystery actually work in urban high school. Well done.

After watching this movie I felt as if the director had tried to make a deep and meaningful movie - it didn't really work. There was some really weak acting, and it seemed like the main character was portrayed wrongly, either that or they should have picked a different actor to play the lead. I also found that the guy who's supposed to play the teenage mafia type guy just looked like a little boy trying to be scary, it's not going to happen.

A carefully-structures noir for the teenaged set, complete with a vivid language all its own; the acting isn't terribly as strong as it ought to have been. Final Grade: B
