Review Red Tails

During WWII in Italy, a regiment of black pilots flies with outdated P40’s to perform meaningless assignments, because the white army top management doesn’t believe that a black fellow man is intelligent enough to perform real actions. As in the American Civil War they were seen as pure cannon fodder. In the end they can prove themselves after all. Mix that with a love story and you have “Red Tails“.
I thought it was a highly entertaining film with a lot of action and in my opinion nevertheless impressive air battles. In other words, I wasn’t bored for a moment. It’s not a top-notch film, but on the other hand it isn’t a flop either.
The strange thing is that on IMDB you can read totally different opinions of people who actually should know it.

First let me start by saying i simply loved this film! Now as to why the ultimate master of directing sci fi today as we know it George Lucas would produce and not direct and putting in the director's chair a newbie more or less. Now lets not put any bad conatations on the word newbie(if thats a word that is?) As director Anthony Hemingway has directed alot of good tv shows throught his career so far and assisted the director on a few big screen movies however this is his first where he is the director alone. Well not so alone as i'm sure Lucas was beside him most of the time. This was i quote supposed to be the film Lucas always wanted to make!! The point i am trying to make is although a good film it couldve been spectacular!!
The storyline was great as a biopic (If that's what …

I hated this movie. You have a handful of talented actors that aren't asked to do much, along with a laughably, horrendously cheesy script and underdeveloped characters. It's a shame because you have such a great, inspirational story put on display, but it's told in the completely wrong way. It reminded me a lot of Michael Bay's WW2 film Pearl Harbor, though this is much worse. Most of the performances are stale and unintentionally funny, the script is horrendous and corny beyond belief, and the movie, as a whole, is just a big, boring, joyless mess. Executive producer George Lucas (Star Wars) calls this movie his dream project, faithfully handing the script over to Anthony Hemingway so he can direct it. Lucas is really letting me down.
The aerial battle scenes lacked tension and …

The Crash and Burn of Red Tails

According to several articles I have read lately, it has been George Lucas’ intention to make a film about the Tuskagee Airmen since the 1980’s, but he hasn’t been able to find a studio that would support it, claiming that audiences wouldn’t be interested in seeing a movie with an all black cast. I don’t know if they really believed that or if they were just too afraid to tell George that his script was corny and disappointing, but whatever the case may be, Mr. Lucas had to fund the project with his own spare change…no doubt last Tuesday’s Star Wars action figure sales covered it nicely.
THE GOOD: If you are unfamiliar with the premise of this film, it recounts the history of the first African American military aviators in the United States Armed Forces—the Tuskagee …
