Quiet in it's way, comical in it's way, perfectly cast, and gorgeously shot, this movie is great while watching, but didn't particularly stick with me in the way that, say, Black Swan did this year. It's a bit of a step out of turn for the Coen Brothers, one that will probably serve more to demonstrate their versatility than to highlight what makes them two of the greatest directors of their time

True Grit was excellent, I'll admit I'm not the first person to talk to when it comes to westerns and this is only the second Coen Brothers film I ever saw, but this movie was really special and overall a lot of fun. Not to mention the acting was just superb as well, in part because of how convincing and knockout good Hailee Steinfeld was. Not to mention the acting and reverence to the setting made the film that much more enjoyable. I can't say how it is over the original because I actually did see the John Wayne original a few years back but my memory of it is pretty fuzzy at this point. Either way a great movie I would easily reccomend to anyone.

True Grit is a great example of pure filmmaking - a film that relies steadily on intricate characters, deep themes, and strong storytelling. All of the leads immerse themselves into the story, which contains equal parts wit and gravity. Hailee Steinfeld is especially noteworthy and captivating in her debut role. The Coen Brothers depart from their familiar madcap and quirky ways into more classic storytelling territory, while still leaving their mark of razor-sharp dialogue and fully-realized unique characters. Their True Grit is a more serious and heavy affair than the 1969 film and actually is better than that version.

True Grit is true-ly great! This is completely different from it's 1969 counterpart. A much closer adaptation of the novel and an all around better movie than the John Wayne version. The actors go above and beyond expectations and the whole movie is entertaining as hell. The Coen Brothers have topped themselves again!

A good old-fashioned Western that should please fans of the original and newcomers to True Grit. The cast is extremely strong, though for me, John Wayne will ALWAYS be Rooster Cogburn. That's not to say Jeff Bridges did a bad job, he was great, but some things can't be replaced. The standout, of course, is Hailee Steinfeld, who's in nearly every scene and holds her own against the Oscar winners and nominees. The climax is over pretty quickly and left me feeling a little unsatisfied (given the buildup) but overall, a good film.

True Grit was fantastic (both the original and the remake). The casting was fantastic. Jeff Bridges did an amazing job as Rooster and really sold the situation. Hailee Steinfeld really held her own with the impressive cast. This is both funnier and more violent than the original movie (more like the book? I don't know). If you like westerns you need to see this movie. I think that many action fans will also really enjoy it. Josh Brolin also does a great job as the bad guy.
