A pretty wholesome film that's funny, intelligent, and relatable, "Tiny Furniture" holds up a well-polished mirror to real life.

I often give praise to films that instill a form of realism in storytelling. This is one case where it didn't work for me. This movie felt too real, in an uncomfortable and awkward manner. I guess that's where the supposed comedy was to come from, but the presentation didn't generate any laughs from me. I was unable to be engaged due to the standoff nature of the film and it's main character. Writer/Director/Star Dunham is competent behind the camera, and somewhat in writing, but she is not an engaging screen presence. 'Tiny Furniture' could've been somewhat entertaining without the overall dour and plodding effect.
