A film about making a difference which stems from the hearts of the real Congressman Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks), his glamorous friend Joanne Herring (Julia Roberts) and just CIA operative Gust Avrakotos (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Amazing to see how a "real" person despite the drugs and womanizing still has the capacity to help the Pakistani's against the war between the Russians. Philip Seymour Hoffman was sensational and the screenplay well written. The rest of the film however lacks the humor and any distinct factor to make it memorable. Special features on the DVD were a delight. Charlie Wilson's War is definitely worth a look.

A shrewd satire that touches on relevant political, social, and religious themes, while boasting a witty screenplay and ensemble cast that disappears into their various roles. One of the best films of 2007.

Though Nichols has done a lot better, there is no denying that this biographical political satire is both witty and observant.

So many people thought this film was boring. I didn't think so. I loved this film and thought Hoffman def deserved the Oscar for it. The book on the other hand. SUCKS! God, the book is mind numbing. It's written like a f****** history book.

A movie based on politics but isn't always about the politics. A little bit of humor with a good cast of actors makes this definitely worth watching. Oh, and I don't know why...but any movie with Soviets taking a beating gets a little extra boost in my book. 3.5/4

A nice political satire that works because the casting is brilliant and the timing for the story is right. It's not perfect, the comedy doesn't always work, but in the end, they still get a very serious point across.

A political drama that glosses over so many important activities, shoehorning as much comedy and one-liners as it can; Hanks and especially Hoffman are suitable, but Roberts is miscast as a rich Texas gadfly and the script could've been more enlightening or biting. Final Grade: C

A rather fun political movie. It starts out as more of a sarcastic and unconventional romp more then anything, but evolves as the characters do, mainly Hanks. Everyone does a great job here, with meaning and true enthusiasm behind every character choice and action. All are oscar-worthy performances, Roberts's and Hoffman's supporting roles in particular. Nichols does an excellent job with this material, doing justice to the story and people involved, and making into a very well-received and fairly popular movie.
