Much has been made of this film's authenticity but this story is too good and silly and entertaining to not watch. This film will take you places you may not have expected but I think you'll enjoy the ride

What is art and who is Banksy? What starts off as a documentary on street art - featuring the likes of Shephard Fairey, Space Invader and Banksy himself? - all filmed by a man who never puts down his camera, Thierry Guett - morphs into the same man deciding to become a street artist himself (Mr. Brainwash) and turning it into a lucrative commercial venture. But how much of this is real and how much of this "prankumentary" is farce and who is the joke on? I guarantee you one thing - you won't find another documentary out there quite like this one.

Filled me with disbelief and skepticism. This movie keeps twisting down different alleys, from a fascinating look at the rise of street art, the acceptance and conflict that brings about, to the unbelievable finale art show. So what exactly IS art? Is Mister Brainwash actually Banksy?

This is a wonderfully superb documentary, focusing on the lives of the most infamous and most sought after street artists on Earth. Thierry Guetta is an ameteur filmmaker who has no intentino of really ever making a film, yet he stumbles upon an absurdist world where breaking the law is not the most deviant behavior known - its getting caught. Street artists across the world are mentioned and showcased in this spectacular emergence of pop culture in real pop culture. A soaring epic to the joyous world of art for the sake of art - not for the sake of cash.

I resisted, and for what? This documentary is a hilarious commentary on street art and the nature of art itself, commercialization of art, nature of fame in today's society, etc., that anyone even the slightest bit interested in art should see. AND it's pretty damn funny. But who was Banksy?

Brilliant... and not only because Banksy is a hero of mine. This documentary showcases street artists in a way that no other film has. Witty, and stuffed with Banksy's wonderful sassy style and mockery. After watching it (repeatedly) I couldn't help but feel a strong desire to go out and do some damage where damage deserves to be done. (Banksy, Las Vegas is calling your name..)

Exit Through the Gift Shop is a brilliant, often funny, interesting look at the unique world of street art. Many of the personas and ideas revealed, along with some of the lengths artists will go to to have their works displayed, must be seen to be believed. Beyond all of the eccentric personalities, there is some genuinely thought-provoking dialogue about the nature of art and artists.
