The Killer Inside Me (review)

A dark noir thriller with an unexpected conclusion and black humor for its genre. Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford (Casey Affleck) was asked to check on a prostitute Joyce Lakeland (Jessica Alba). After a murder things go hairy and Howard Hendricks (Simon Baker) tries his best to resolve the murders. Amy (Kate Hudson) suspects something is going on with Lou. Screenplay was good with lines: "You know, I figure that you don't get any more out of life than what you put into it." and "Haste makes waste." Only qualms this reviewer had were the overdone lovemaking scenes (unlike Lost Highway it connected to the plot) and dialogue somewhat repetitive. Casey Affleck was effective and chilling. As a noir thriller, this strange little movie has its moments. But it doesn't seem to just be a noir, or at least people aren't content to take it that way. The main character, played with the perfect amount of creepy non-emotion by Casey Affleck, doesn't really have a lot of motivation for the horrible things he does, save for a half-explained revenge scheme. My problem was more with the fact that the movie has no idea what the protagonist's motivation is! The female characters are poorly written and poorly acted (Jessica Alba is utterly forgettable, as usual). Bill Pullman has an inexplicable cameo. The movie just …

Violent, Yet Well Done

I was able to see this with Movies On Demand in my own living room, even before it is released to theaters. Pretty good idea for these types of films. I felt this was a really good movie. One of the better ones I have seen since Oscar Season.
Casey Affleck (who is infinitely better than Big Ben), does a stellar job as a small town Deputy Sheriff (or something like that) in the mid 20th century. Not only was his performance good, the whole cast acted really well.
The story is interesting - a killers story told in the first person. So for once, we are finally able to see what a killer is thinking and why the person does it. I was never really bored and I enjoy watching the entire story. I can't say a whole lot about it other than it is definitely worth watching.
Be careful. It …
