Tremendously stupid but it pretends to be nothing more than a gory over-the-top fantasy/action movie. Along with the rest of the cast, Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton remain fully aware that they're in a tremendously stupid movie. But it's short so it does not overstay its welcome which would have made it a truly awful movie.

This movie is more stupid then Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter. This movie is just lame, I mean some of the deaths in the movie are good but the rest of the movie is just crap.

Things I learned from this film: Witches are awesome at parkour, Hansel and Gretel have really foul mouths and trolls make excellent friends (and even have names!). This is a fun diversion - and it definitely earns the R rating - if you want an action film with a fantasy twist, you'll have a good night.

a enjoyable fun movie. about hunting witches. there could of been some better dialogue though between the characters as you expected them to say much more than they actually did. the communication between them all just wasn't right or natural. but over all it was good entertainment.

I always like it when people make R rated movies out of fairy (faerie?) takes, It's ALWAYS a good idea! I also like the little PSA on diabetes.

Hansel & Gretel is a weird film and none of it is really very good. The film tries to be a snarky steampop adaptation of a fairytale world, a la (the equally bad) League of Extraordinary Gentleman, but, unlike that film, it's missing the necessary taste for black humor. The plot itself is ridiculous fantasy (something about a Blood Moon ritual that is complete tired mumbo-jumbo,) but the film doesn't take the opportunity to poke fun at itself and, rather, plays the material straight, which accents the fact that the script and plot are simply not very compelling. The action is gore-oriented and frequent, but, without interesting characters or comic relief to break up the action, it just feels dark.
