Rock of Ages

Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough) is your typical small-town girl from Oklahoma who decides to pursue her dreams of being a singer in Los Angeles. Upon arriving, she is mugged and loses her suitcase with all her favorite records. Drew Boley (Diego Boneta), a city boy, witnesses Sherrie being mugged and helps her out by getting her a job as a waitress where he works, at the Bourbon Room.
Everything is going just peachy and then that silly thing that happens in so many teenage love stories occurs where one person assumes the other one did something to betray them, and instead of actually confronting them about it, they just assume they're right and ruin everything they have going for them. (I think this is just about the moment where half the audience realized it was only a matter of …

Rock of Ages review rockin fun with humor
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 08/22/2012
For those who dig 80's rock, humorous musicals while playing satire to boy bands, then this is for your. This reviewer that enjoyed Van Halen, GN'R, Skid Row back in the day, if your into this type of bands, this film's soundtrack will definitely be heaven to your ears. Sherrie (Julianne Hough) travels to LA to become a singer and accidentally meets Drew (Diego Boneta), who dreams of making it big with his band. Dennis (Alec Baldwin), and his right-hand man, Lonny (Russell Brand) try to revive the bar. Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) performs but Patricia Whitmore (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is negative of the rock star's lifestyle. The cheesy simple lines and length killed the fun. On the positives, the rockin sounds, surprisingly good humor, performance of Cruise and humor of Brand made this …

Movie Review of Rock of Ages

I don't want to brag or anything, but my high school and college years were spent in a time period known as" the 80's", where AquaNet and mullets were plentiful, and the music by bands like Journey, Guns N Roses, and my personal favorite, Def Leppard, was not just great, it was EPIC. Imagine then how my little "hair metal" loving heart skipped a beat when I saw the previews for 'Rock of Ages'!
THE GOOD: Based on a Broadway musical and set on Hollywood's Sunset Strip, 'Rock of Ages' is the story of two young rock star wannabees: Sherrie (Julianne Hough) and Drew (Diego Boneta), who fall in and out of love at the infamous and nearly broke Bourbon Room, the place that gave Rock God Stacee Jaxx (played by Tom Cruise) his start. As manager of the Bourbon Room, Dennis (Alec Baldwin) hopes …

Let's Get Rocked

Here's all you need to know about Rock of Ages: 90% music, 9% dialogue and 1% Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand staring deeply into each others eyes. Alright - that may be a bit of a stretch, but, as the posters exclaim, if you're looking for nothing but a good time, you won't leave disappointed.
When a movie opens with a main character sitting on a bus singing "Sister Christian" and then the entire bus (including the driver and precocious little girl sitting in the seat in front of her) join in - well, you know this is going to be a lot of fun. The story is slightly cliche - small-town girl looking to make it big, bar-back singer looking to have his band make a mark (A "Jukebox Hero" if you will) - and, wouldn't you know it - a love connection forms between the two.
Even if this is …

80s Rock Musical Made Comedic
Nick - wrote on 06/14/2012
I found myself wondering how I could ever enjoy a musical, knowing they tend to have little plot, and spontaneous breakouts in song... with complete strangers... that just makes the movie impossible to watch. But with Rock of Ages focusing around 80s rock, plus a descent cast list, maybe it has a chance. The beauty of this movie is there is plenty of comedy, the cast works great, the 80s rock song list is exceptional, and the spontaneous breakout in song is done almost in an intentionally cheesy way to make fun of musicals in general. I walked out of this movie liking it more than when I walked in, but I'd keep your money and just get it as a rental. But if your significant other drags you to this movie, don't completely dread the fact that you have to watch a musical, it isn't as …
