What we basically have here is The Untouchables with a fresh coat of paint but that doesn't make it better. Sean Penn overacts his ass off but remains the most entertaining part of the movie. What's surprising is the lack of action, the biggest draw from the trailers aside from its cast. Speaking of which, they're mostly forgettable. Still, it looks great.

Had so much potential with the awesome cast and great trailer, This movie is pointless. The acting is nothing to write home about and the plot is just terrible. It is horribly directed and badly paced. Skip it!

Gangster Squad isn't a particularly bad film, just purely mediocre. It's well-shot and presents some interesting and occasionally poetic visual moments, but it doesn't do anything new or different. White Heat, The Untouchables, Bugsy, and a host of other 1940's gangster films brim with freshness and insight and Gangster Squad only recycles tired cliches from those films into a muddled action film that isn't all that exciting. What results is a cast of cookie cutter characters (the grizzled police chief, the jaded rogue cop, the idealistic police sergeant, and Sean Penn as the sarcastic Micky Cohen, buried under pounds of bad makeup) who don't present any substance for the audience to care about and a plot that gives the same.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I admit i wasnt expecting alot Gosling in a gangster movie seemed very out of place for me, but dude is a chameleon nowadays playing in all types of movies and tearing it up, a very good gangster flick, reminds me of one of my favorites in Public Enemies, quite gruesome but if you dont have a weak stomach i would suggest watching this movie

This movie started of with a body being ripped in half by two cars. It was all downhill from there. Sean Penn is the only redeeming element of this turd. The love story is uncomfortable at best. The T-1000 playing a wild west gunslinger was confusing. Giovanni Ribisi? What's this guy been up to lately? Why is he playing anything other than a crazy guy? The Lethal Weapon ripoff ending was the straw that broke this awful movie's back. Do yourself a favor and watch L.A. Confidential again instead of seeing Gangster Squad.

All the actors played their roles perfectly. Penn, especially, was very believable. However, the plot was lacking, and the action wasn't really anything that I haven't seen before. All in all, it was definitely worth the watch.
