Danny has been kept by the mafia to perform deeds for them. Because of his collar, he is raised like a dog. If it is unleashed, all hell breaks loose. He becomes an unstoppable fighting machine. The story doesn’t revolve around him; it also shows compassion of the human spirit by strangers and the resolution of who his mother really was. Yes some of the scenes are over the top but its casting and morale lesson speaks volumes. Morgan Freeman was superb in his role as a father figure. The action mixed with pertinent background music and luscious scenery was amusing. Jet Li’s acting was stretched here; you can really empathize with him. Overall, this entertaining film had a lot to offer, if only it had more realism to it.

Of the Jet Li films i have seen, this one is the most enjoyable, and likeable of his characters. Very happy about Bart's unfortunite coma, Jet Li's character seemed to come to life, and you felt compassion for him and wanted to find a way to help him, hoping that his "owner" would die in the coma.

Gritty thriller with ferocious performances and sure-handed direction. The subject matter is strong and the violence quotient is high, but the pace is very unbalanced and Morgan Freeman's character is perhaps too wise for his own good. Bob Hoskins and Jet Li excel. Final Grade: B

This is Jet Li's best American film. Li himself is great in this and you really feel for all the characters. The fight sequences are great too. A good balance of story and action.

I would like to give this film 3/4 stars, I really would, but unfortunately there are things which drag it down to a 2.5, which by all means is still a fairly good score. The films plot is an interesting one and the casting is strong to make this film a good, watchable experience. The films starts off with a great scene and brilliant choreography which continues throughout the duration of the film. There where some quite noticeable flaws in the film, which added-up to give this film a lower score, but I still regard it as one to watch for the excitement, plot and stunt work involved in it.

I have been a fan of Jet Li for a while. The majority of his American films have been duds mostly because of the story line and not because of his skills as an actor or a martial artist. Danny The Dog (Unleashed) is a different kind of film for Li. He trys to portray a character that far more likable than most of his other roles. Personally felt this film was a great way for him to flex his abilities as an actor as well as show off his martial art talents. Morgan Freeman is once again doing an incredible job, and Bob Hoskins was amazing playing a character unlike the ones I am familiar with him portraying over the years. I really enjoyed this movie and I would recommend it.

The casting is great. Li, Freeman and Hoskins are three actors who elevate films. The problem is the story. Li has a child's mind and is also a vicious killer all controlled by a collar! There's more, but that overpowered everything else.
