The Day of the Dolphin boasts one of the most hairbrained taglines in film history. It’s just not as hairbrained as it should be. It starts out strong and George C. Scott sells it that he’s studying and communicating with these animals. But there’s a lot of time devoted to setting up the plot. The conspiracy section of the story begins too late in the film to be truly satisfying. But it’s not a total loss. Again, Scott is great in the lead and the underwater photography of the dolphins is magnificent. For the script’s problems, I bought the friggin dolphin’s performance!
