Dead Ringers review

Dead Ringers is about a scary transformation, actresses lifestyle, malpractice, attachments (figuratively and literally), loneliness, drug addiction, manipulation and a unique brotherly love. As one of the characters mentioned - "Why don't you get along with your very own life?" which almost sums up the premise of the story. One of the best horrific psychological thrillers with a great performance from a single person. Elliot and Beverly Mantle are identical twins that are gynecologists. Beverly is the younger of the two who is shy and lonely while Elliot is confident and a womanizer. One of the best drug related films which shows its effects via clinical depression, heavy drinking, prescription drug abuse and paranoid delusions. Brilliant gynecologists Beverly and Elliot Mantle are identical twins who share everything-even women-when the younger and more sensitive of the two forms an emotional bond with one of their patients that threatens their inter-dependent relationship. David Cronenberg's dark psycho-sexual chiller is lacking his usual gory effects and is a much more subtle and understated affair. The doctors' psychological decay and descent into drug abuse and madness is handled with great sensitivity, never demonising or judgemental, and the seamless direction and visual effects mean that you would never guess that the twins were played by the same actor if you didn't already know.
