I wouldn't say it's wrong to call "Dirty Harry" a little ultraconservative or reckless, but on the occasions when our security and justice systems break down, it might be kind of good to have people like Inspector Callahan around to stop those who end up slipping through the cracks.

A good Eastwood film. It's not just a cop film, it's a Clint Eastwood film. Kind of like the question when is a musical, not a musical? When Elvis is in it. It's an Elvis film. The plot is pretty straightforward, there's not twists or turns. It's basically just a film to show case how awesome and manly Clint Eastwood is...and he is. He has no problem maiming or killing those that deserve it. This is especially true in the bank robbery scene. A good entertaining film.

First and best of the series. One of the most memorable cop films. Harry is a bona fide badass.

Clint Eastwood is very much playing a similar character to the Man in Black he popularized in the Western genre. He's a man of few words, a gritty lone ranger who plays by his own rules. His portrayal is what makes this film an above average cop thriller, most memorably his ability to spout off one-liners with the appropriate snarl.

The first of many hard-nosed, doesn't-play-by-the-rules cop movies.

Hollywood's first reaction to the Zodiac killer was to make a movie about him. Dirty Harry satisfies the public's thrist for vengenance by hunting down the serial killer "Scorpio." Almost four decades later, Zodiac is still waiting for someone to make a good film about him.

This film has mellowed with age while other action-packed, explosive films have taken its place as the king of manly movies. Still, you can't do much better than Clint Eastwood in tough-guy mode. He can still make my day anytime.
