A solid action flick, Denzel and cast deliver.

A sleeper hit if you've got an itch that only an action flick can scratch, this film was definitely not on the radar, but well worth the time. I reckon this picture will find a place on your shelf right next to 'shoot 'em up' as it carries the same sort of vibe. A retired killer with a heart of gold who, through the course of his life has somehow acquired insane killing skills, develops a soft spot for a damsel in distress and kills his way through 2 heavy hours of film. Decent pacing and acting good enough to keep the audience engaged, and for the most part a fairly decent job keeping me from rolling my eyes with any inane or too-over-the-top action moments. Just a warning, lots of folks die in this flick and in some pretty painful ways.

“When you pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too.”
Can you remember Denzel Washington's performance in "The Book of Eli" ? His coolness and calmness. The grimness. The power he has to move mountains. Approaching his target confidently , his inner tranquility taking over and with extreme precision dealing with his opponents. Shrewdly assimilating the situation, let it sink in for a moment and than act fast accurately. Masterfully, breathtaking to watch and immensely exciting. He also demonstrates these qualities in "The Equalizer". The only difference is that he's not completely blind here.
At first sight Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) looks like an ordinary, well-organized man who has an normal job in a hardware store. Apparently he was one of the Pips performing …

The Sum does not equal Denzel's Star power.

You've seen similar stories as this before. Many including Denzel Washington as the star. See Man on Fire, 2 Guns, Safe House and his award winning turn in Training Day. Equalizer is an average movie but only because of the always believable Denzel who automatically raises a Film with his mere presence. Without him this would be a lower end "Taken" rip off which I would actually rate about the same as this film. The Villains are mostly of the Cookie Cutter Cardboard variety with lazily written throw away lines to utter. There are a couple of well staged action scenes but over all its a by-the numbers Action thriller with nothing new to say. The under appreciated Melissa Leo shows up and adds what she can but I'm not sure what purpose Bill Pullman had other than for the Director to …

Robert McCall: "Progress. Not Perfection".
The story is about a former black ops commander has settled down in Boston - having faked his own death in order to enjoy a normal life. But when a young girl gets herself in trouble, his need for justice brings him out of retirement - even if it means going up against a group of dangerous Russian gangsters.
I always like Denzel Washington in every movie that he was in. He always brings that cocky, smart-ass, know it all kind of person; and The Equalizer is nothing different. Denzel in this movie is a pure bad-ass that will end your life if he had to, just like Liam Neeson from Taken. The villain in this movie is pretty much the same villain that I've seen in every other Russian gangsters mob movies out there. The movie towards they end …
