It had some interesting characters. But, the plot was a little lackluster.

though I think the story drags a little in the middle, this is a pretty smoothly-directed portrait of the R & B music scene. The musical soundtrack is impressive and Jennifer Hudson particularly showcases both her acting and singing chops.

ooo...Shiny. Thoughts once I try to think about a very flashy, distracting, but still entertaining movie. 1. Not impressed with Bill Condon-seems an over-indulgent director. 2. Beyonce's "performance"-what a stretch. 3. What's based on fact and what's not? Took me out of the movie. 4. I LOVE closing credits that show all the featured actors.

Eddie Murphy should have won the Best Supp. Actor Oscar. This is one of my favorite musicals. Musicals are pretty much always boring and dreadful. This one actually keeps me interested in the story and its characters. This was a pretty good film.

Uneven all-black musical drama has too little character development and most of the cast lack sympathy; Jennifer Hudson, however, is phenomenal and nearly saves the movie single-handedly. It's a wonder just how much praise and attention this received. Final Grade: C

A mess. Beyonce should never be allowed on a movie set, that's one. Two, I didn't even know it was a musical until 15 minutes into the movie. In the beginning the actors were singing on stage, which makes sense because this is the story of a musical singing group. Then out of nowhere 15 minutes into the movie Jamie Foxx and his crew start singing in the street. I remember being in the theatre and hear people whispering like "What's goin on?" "This is a musical?" Horrible.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I loved the music, the story was good and they even managed to give Eddie Murphy a role that didn't want me to gouge my eyes out. It's not perfect, but overall I was happy with the result.

Basically, this movie didn't have a whole lot of acting going on. There were so many songs that the soundtrack could have been a 7 disc 12 song per cd set. I now know why it was not nominated for an oscar. Do not waste your time.
