The Letter (2012) review

"On that first night of course we didn't know who you were, or what you would do to us, or what you would do to me." A psychological thriller about playwright Martine (Winona Ryder) who casts a new mysterious member named Tyrone (James Franco). Sluggish pace and repetitive dialogues that leads to a supposedly surprising conclusion. By the time one reaches the end one has lost interest. It was refreshing to see Ryder in a complex role coupled with another talent in Franco, who the director taught long before. This reminded the reviewer of a poor Persona by Bergman, if only the plot direction and characters were interesting. It took a more artsy direction instead of focusing on the structured narrative to make it viewable. The Letter is about fiction versus reality, which in this …
