A wonderfully acted film. David O. Russell does it again, spinning a hard-to-follow tale, much like his I Heart Huckabees (2004). He seems to have found is muse or is it, muses? I don't know, but Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are back just like they were in Silver Linings Playbook (2012). The tale is tricky, but in the end, you can, somewhat , figure out what just happened. And that's the point. We're not supposed to really know who's conning who. Even if only part of this is factual, and I don't know where the fact ends and the fiction begins, this is a highly entertaining film that is a must-see. And remember, don't put any metal in the science oven.

I have to admit, I was expecting a bit more - the performances, for the most part, didn't wow me (though Jeremy Renner was a standout and Amy Adams - side boob and all - was excellent), but even with that letdown, American Hustle works because it really does transport you. The hair, the clothing, the music - it is all perfect and even if the story isn't "true" - it has enough element of reality to make it worth your time. Not the best movie of 2013 - but certainly one of the better ones.

It's appropriate that partying has a lot to do with the plot of American Hustle since it often feels like that one guest who overstays their welcome. It's still pretty good but it is longer than it should be and some plot threads remain unresolved despite the smugness of the script in the end. Jennifer Lawrence is not in it as much as the trailers implied but she easily gives the best performance. Amy Adams does a good job, mostly at being so dam sexy! God she was hot in this movie! Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper engage in a pissing contest while Jeremy Renner is the poor sap caught in the middle.

The costumes and props are highly enjoyable, and the female performances not bad. The biggest hole in the movie is Bale, who doesn't even convince me as a schlub from the Bronx, let alone as a con artist slick enough to convince people he's anything else. The script suggests that the character has the kind of charisma that makes people want to do whatever he says, but for me at least, it never translated to the screen.

Very good. Every single actor did an outstanding job with their role. Amy Adams just wow! Bradley Cooper acts on a whole new level I haven't seen before. Jennifer Lawrence, amazing as always. Christian Bale is outstanding. Highly recommend. It's a drama. There are some humorous parts. It shows the reasoning behind con artist while telling a story.

'American Hustle' is a solid comedic/drama con story that is also inspired by true events. It's more of a streamlined crime film, with memorable characters and dialogue. Something similar to the works of Scorsese. Once again, David O. Russell crafts a very entertaining story and showcases some great performances (a combination of the best actors from his last two films). Cooper, Adams, and Bale are all top notch, but for me the real scene stealer is Lawrence. She plays a dumb character that doesn't know she is dumb, which makes her an unwittingly lethal wrench in the outcome of the con artist's scheme. She is perfectly hilarious in this supporting role. The whole film is stylish, swift, snappy, and undeniably entertaining.
