Excellent movie

Quote Paul Carvel
Internet : absolute communication, absolute isolation.
A great movie with a subject that fits a modern society nowadays and really fascinated me. Because of my professional life I'm closely connected with the used themes and technologies, making it more enjoyable for me. At first I was expecting a boring movie about the contemporary information society with a lot of posturing and dialogues, so the entertainment value of this film would drop to absolute zero.
This was in retrospect a huge judgmental error. This was an intriguing movie with three story lines that eventually were subtly interwoven. The thread is a socially critical message with three examples of what dangers lurk in today's information technology : exploitation, internet fraud and cyber …

Rethink How You 'Connect'
Unknown - wrote on 09/21/2013
'Disconnect' is an effective three story drama with a message. The multiple threads manage to coincide without any missteps in narrative. Each one is given equal screen time and reaching a deserved emotional climax. The runtime is surprisingly short for this type of film (under two hours). This provides no unnecessary elongated scenes. Every moment counts. Though, one of the three stories is stronger than the other two, in terms of dramatic weight. There is much to be said and learned from the experiences of these characters through their online interactions, but it's nothing that even the most unversed computer user couldn't understand. The emotional connect didn't come through for me until the finale. I felt each story ended perfectly for what they were building to. The rest …

Technological Thriller with a Message
Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/08/2013
Disconnect really takes compelling subject and gives us a powerful set of stories, interconnected, that really drives home the message. In this case, the concern is technology - technology that is supposed to make it easier than ever to connect with our fellow man but, in many cases, it has the exact opposite effect. Cyber-bullying, identity theft, pornography and just not connecting with your family - these are the pitfalls and perils of a 24-hour online world.
There are three main stories here: two friends play a prank on a fellow student that goes too far, a couple deal with the fallout of having their identity stolen and a reporter works on a story involving teens working on an adult website only to get too close to the subject. The dad of one of the cyber-bullying kids works as …

This year's real scary movie.

For the past couple of years, I've seen one film almost every year that made me feel so disgusted by life and traumatized after watching it. 2008 had Hunger, 2009 had The Road, 2011 had We Need To Talk About Kevin, 2012 had Compliance and this year has Disconnect. A shockingly realistic depiction of what happens in some situation of online abuse.
Let me start out with the negatives. That's pretty ironic to say, because this movie is about negative situations that can traumatize and change people.
This film is directed by a man named Henry Alex Rubin, and I'm not too sure if his style was fitting for this film. Sometimes his direction was terrible, sometimes it was brilliant. It's a mishmash.
For example, I didn't like the constant zoom in and outs. The film needed some contrast. …

Disconnect review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 08/20/2013
Jason and his friend Frye plays a prank on Ben. Cindy and Derek, who lost a child, have issues with his credit card limit. Nina, who is going out with Peter, wants to interview Kyle, who works in sex chat-rooms. Rich, a legal counsel at the TV station, the father of Ben becomes guilty of his sons incident. For this reviewer, the best story was with Cindy and Derek’s situation as they track down the culprit. Soundtrack somewhat felt out of place and its pace was sort of dreadful in certain scenes. Screenplay was well written with lines: "It's like his broken inside." “What father wouldn’t care?””I don’t care about the money.” Themes of the adverse effects of technology, obsession, improper parenting and guidance were portrayed well by the artists especially Jason …

Disconnect

Disconnect (2013) This film explores the interconnected world of the internet and its far reaching perils. A husband and wife (Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Patton) have their identities stolen, a widowed father (Frank Grillo) has no idea what his son is doing on-line, a reporter (Andrea Riseborough) is trying to do a story on the exploitation of young men on the internet and a married couple (Jason Bateman, Hope Davis) can’t connect with their son whose whole world is wrapped up with music and the internet. This is a very stylish film with some excellent performances, especially Skarsgard and Patton, who are trying to keep their marriage from falling apart. This is an interesting film to watch, and while not all of its stories are resolved, you do get an idea where most of the characters …
