A dark,confrontational thriller in post-war Russia

"I would rather spend a lifetime in a sh*t-hole like this with you, than spend one minute in Moscow without you."
First let me clarify something. I'm not an anti-communist or supporter of anti-Russian propaganda. Neither am I an anti-capitalist or against the other superpower on the other side of the planet. I'm a tiny little person who leads a modest life in probably one of the smallest countries in the world. To label this film as propaganda against the USSR, sounds to me in the present world situation quite exaggerated. Who the hell would benefit from that? Isn't this movie trying to visualize the circumstances in which ordinary people had to live and survive in the post-war period? I can't tell if the shown images are truthful or not. But I'm glad I'm not living in such harsh …

A Dour Slog Through Stalinist Russia

Child 44 is a dark, dour thriller set in Stalin-era Russia. While the film has the tone of Western propaganda, it still does a fine job of reminding us how far things have come - and yet how little things have truly changed.
Based partly on the true story of Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo (though set in an entirely different time period). The film follows Russian MGB agent Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy) as he rises through the ranks only to find himself marginalized and barely avoiding the Gulag when his ideas clash with the Communist ideals. Why?
Matthew Brady - wrote on 06/23/2015
I know this is a really late review as this movie came out in April, and the reason for that is that too be honest I forgot about this one until I was looking through what I've seen to review and I came across this and I thought to myself "Oh I remember that the movie, well I should just get my thoughts out since I got nothing else to review until tomorrow".
The movie is not very good. Pretty disappointing, it had such a big name cast to it but they did nothing really special in the movie. I'm going to forget about this movie and so will you at the end of year so I'm not going to waste my time or your time taking about this movie as do you really care about me going into detail about a film that's not good, nobody cares about and just forgettable.
