With the exception of some acidic and often vulgar humor, "Erin Brockovich" shares a little too many similarities with Lifetime movies.

Directed with confidence by Steven Soderbergh, this true-life drama is a rousing crowd pleaser with a great lead turn by Julia Roberts. Hardly the paragon of virtue as other protagonists in such trial movies, Erin Brockovich is profane and abrasive (often unfairly to others). But as she puts it, she still knows right and wrong. Albert Finney is a lot of fun as her boss and mentor.

Courtroom drama filmmaking at its finest.

It all feels a bit true-life TV movie, but Julia Roberts is unusually likeable in a down-to-earth kind of way and Albert Finney adds some weight to the contrived feelgoodness of it all.

Julia Roberts' best performance - a grounded, down-to-earth and brash portrayal breathes life into what might otherwise be a pretty standard legal drama. Every scene that she is in (which is most of them) is alive with passion and fury, which, in turn, gives the film a unique life of its own.

Roberts plays the character well and has some good moments, but I didn't care too much for the story.

This movie was just a tad over-hyped. But, it was still pretty good.

This movie was okay. It is about Erin Brockovich who scores a job working at a law suite, as an assistant, and soon gets involved in a case, despite the fact that she is arrogant, and not a lawyer. I loved how, even though Erin was really arrogant, and didn't think before she spoke, the directer didn't change her by the end of the movie, because thats just how she is. But that's about it - this film is nothing special.

I can't for the life of me understand why Roberts won an academy award for this one. I love that the real Brockovich was such a butt-kicker who was brave enough to take on a giant, but Roberts just wasn't convincing.
