Hilarious

"I think I'm having brain withdrawals."
Completely hilarious. That's my feeling about "Freaks of nature". First I was afraid this would be another high school teen-movie. Eventually this turned out to be a rather absurd, horror-comedy. A kind of "Porkies in Zombieland" with vampires, zombies and a crazy army of aliens passing through. Of course the known types of youngsters were used again. As expected. First you have the cool student Dag (Nicholas Braun) who abandoned his friend Ned (Josh Fadem) because this one still acted nerdy. Of course he's madly in love with the girl next door Lorelei (Vanessa Hudgens), who looks tremendously tasty, but ultimately it's an impossible love because she's hooked up with a local jock. And last but not least, there's also the pathetic girl Petra …

Bizarre Teen Comedy-Horror Hybrid

Very inventive novel idea turns into a so-so teen comedy. The usual trappings of high school movies force the characters into cliched areas. It is nice to see focus on the kids, but when your story embodies the same motif of high schoolers maturing in relationships (romantic and friendly) it drags down the fun. We've seen this same scenario of a guy befriending the weirdo and chasing after a hot girl only to find the better girl in front of him. Nothing new is added to this tired formula. The only new addition is the overall creative plot surrounding them. Throwing vampires, zombies, and aliens all in the same movie turned out to be an effortless mashup. Those elements breathe easy together in a straight up comedic tone. The comedy itself is pretty hit-or-miss. I chuckled often …
