"Europa Europa" is one of the most eye-opening looks at the effect Nazi Germany had on the human psyche, and it's made so personal by the coming-of-age story and crisis of identity inner conflict that makes up the narrative's core.

A fantastically intimate, and sometimes explicit, of a young Jewish boy who tries to survive against prejudice in a Nazi-torn country. It's refreshing to see a WWII film that doesn't feel compelled to give us epic battle sequences and, instead, focuses on the plight and hurdles faced by the ordinary people in nations under war.

Finally an entertaining movie about WWII and the Holocaust! Solomon Perel (an adorable Marco Hofschneider) is a German Jew who is captured (by Germans) during Hitler's advance toward Russia. Convincing them he's ethnic German, he finagles work as their translator and, despite his raven tresses, is soon seen as the model Hitler Youth. His girlfriend (Delpy), though fooled at first, can only take the "uh, I left my foreskin back at the barrack" excuse so many times. And she's a blonde bloodthirsty Nazi!

An interesting look at a boy during the war and the lies he tells to keep alive.
