Stanley Kubrick's final film gives just about everything you could want from it: intensity, suspense, drama; all providing the cinema great to go out on a high note.

Story is interesting. Mystery is effective with some great scenes. Intense. With great music. And of course great directing. Even with all this, this movie is just good to me, not nearly as good as 2001, The Shining that also included mystery and were much better.

Dr. Bill Harford (Tom Cruise) and his wife, Alice (Nicole Kidman), a couple from New York attend a Christmas party by a wealthy patient, Victor Ziegler (Sydney Pollack). Things go weird after smoking marijuana. A simple premise and yet the unorthodox and snail paced direction was utilized. The settings and masks added to the already dull scenes. Eyes Wide Shut is in this reviewer's opinion one of the director's weakest film.

I took a second look at this film and I appreciate it much more. The uncut version is hardly different, but for some reason it resonated more with me. I feel I have a much better grasp on what the film offers.

It took two viewings for this weird and often surreal look at obsession and relationship (amid a standard mystery plot) to sink in. I rate it 3 stars because I think, like most Kubrick films, the attention to thematic detail is stunning and the film itself is very thought-provoking. I wouldn't say it's my favorite film, but it's well made.

There isn't much to be said about thisfilm that has not yet already been stated. Thus, I will suffice it to say that this film was undoubtedly Stanley Kubrick's final vision - a very altered reality that isn't so far from altered as it is reality itself. This world exists out there - this world of sexual discovery and awakenings, yet Kubrick directs a very powerful story that leaves everyone breathless. Set the story apart from all the profanity, nudity, and sexuality, and what is left is a very skeletal, very well-written/directed masterpiece of the art-house genius Stanley Kubrick.

Why did Stanley Kubrick feel the need to make an imitation David Lynch film? We will never know...

Well, two reviews said that it has to be seen twice, I didn't. So, my opinion goes for the only one, wich sucked. I can't believe this one is a Kubrick, might be the plot, might be Cruise. I don't know. The thing is that is one of the most pointless films I've ever seen.

Like most people on the first viewing, I was like "what?" Now after seeing it more than once I think back one scenes that were designed well, acted well, and directed well. It is a creepy mystery that lacks pacing. One can like it.

The first time I saw Eyes Wide Shut, I didn't like it. It took repeated viewings for it to grow on me, and now I consider it classic Kubrick. It might not work for you the first time around, but give it another chance.
