"First Blood" by Yojimbo

Some times a sequel can take the concept of the original film and expand and elaborate on it in interesting ways. Others are just soulless, hulking abominations that suck the life out of the original until you forget that it was actually quite good. In First Blood Sly does what he does best as another stoic everyman (lets face it, when it comes to Stallone's performances, the less he says the better) who reverts to his survivalist training when persecuted by an arrogant and egotistical small town sheriff. There's no point in over-intellectualizing it, this is no analogy or "message" about the treatment of American soldiers in the aftermath of Vietnam. It is merely a tautly directed and well executed action thriller. Brian Dennehy is great as the hick sheriff who lets his ego get in the …

“They drew first blood not me." This line alone sums up the entire film. If they just left Rambo alone, he would have walked through the small town, and no harm would have came to anybody. But alas, this is not how things pan out in this superb action film.
First blood is a movie about a Vietnam War Vet who comes home from the war and realizes that he is the only one from his group that survived. All of his real friends died in the war, and now he has nothing left. So as he’s drifting through a town he gets stopped by a cop that offers to drive him to where he wants to go. Rambo gets in and asks if there’s anyplace he can get something to eat. The cop says he can go 30 miles up the highway. What ensues is Rambo getting dropped off, he heads back, the cop stops him, arrests him, …

John Rambo is a disoriented Vietnam Vet. He is hitchhiking from town to town to see friends from the war. A sheriff tries to make him leave town and when he refuses, arrests him for vagrancy. While in jail, a deputy takes delight in abusing him. Rambo escapes showing his old Vietnam fighting skills and takes to the woods as the sheriff and deputies try and find him in his element. Things get out of hand as Colonel Trautman Rambo's old commander appears to shed light on the situation.
First Blood is the definition of action movies. The well known character of John Rambo is an icon the film world, as he has had 3 sequels and plenty of little knock offs and such to compensate for the star. So now a days, when I watch action movies, I tend to think about what happened to them. In the …

Review - First Blood (1982)

When John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) came home from Vietnam, he expected to be treated as the hero he was. Little did he know how few people supported the war, which leads him on a cat and mouse chase across the Oregon mountain terrain in “First Blood.”
In what seems like a rather stand-alone movie, we first meet Rambo, a now well known icon of action movies, and we see his first adventure before he becomes the U.S. military’s secret weapon. Sly Stallone seems to really enjoy the action drama, and I don’t blame him, ‘cause he’s really good at it. He knows what it takes to make a great action hero.
The plot does seem to waver a bit near the end, but it does have a good plot, which I was a little surprised about. My perception of Rambo before watching this was that he …
