"Straight Outta Compton" has everything a rise to fame story needs: humble beginnings, hardship, incessant opposition, and a vision, made all the better by lifelike portrayals of its music icons.

A larger-than-life story of friendship wrapped in the context of police brutality, sex and drugs, media misrepresentation, and the politics within music industry. This film has A LOT to say. However, touching numerous issues resulted to film's struggle of focus and tying everything up in an almost brilliant narrative.

"Straight Outta Compton" is an amazing film with strong acting performances, especially by the three leads playing Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E. Giamatti is also excellent as Jerry Heller. The music is obviously great and sounds just as fresh and explosive as it sounded back in the late 80's and early 90's. The plot was very strong and the story was compelling. As far as the previous reviewers of this film on this site goes, I don't know what film they we're looking at or what they we're smoking on, but this biopic was amazing and they need their eyes checked immediately lol. Gary F. Gray did an outstanding job directing this film and it's clearly his best work yet in career, an instant classic.

"Straight Outta Compton's" flashy cinematography and exuberant, well written screenplay by Jonathan Herman and Andrea Berloff keeps the film energized as it ventures through its strongest and weakest chapters. It's essentially a rags-to-riches story that loses steam once the "riches" start to kick in. The filmmakers totally rushed through the "rags" aspect of the story, which I found to be much more compelling and engaging than the "riches." That being said, I was still enthralled by most of what F. Gary Gray brought to "Straight Outta Compton," a well acted and confidently written and directed biopic.
