Experimental Outcome

Not quite a biopic. Not quite a docudrama either. 'The Experimenter' exists somewhere between those two areas. It's an odd presentation that has a precise point and only one narrow path on which to reach it's conclusion. This approach didn't work for me. It felt too sporadic. The facts of this man's story are no less than interesting. His experiments hold relevance to examining human nature. There's much knowledge to gain, but the film's offset manner makes it less engaging and entertaining than I'd hoped. This is made more apparent when films like 'Stanford Prison Experiment' and 'Compliance' have covered very similar material in a more emotionally effective way. All three are based on actual events. 'Experimenter' would work better as a companion to those films. On it's own …
