Fantastically scored and skilled camera direction coming from the legend. One of the early dark comedies of its time. Richard Blaney (Jon Finch) gets fired from his job and converses about it with ex-wife Brenda (Barbara Leigh-Hunt), who owns a matchmaking agency. Robert Rusk (Barry Foster) fancies Brenda. Colleague of Richard, Barbara "Babs" Milligan (Anna Massey), trusts him after the incident. The first 33 minutes was thrilling, as the pace was very continues. Ms. Barling, Brenda's secretary, witnesses Richard after a murder. Chief Inspector Oxford (Alec McCowen) investigates the murder. The build-up on the antagonist was impeccable. Screenplay was superb with lines: Richard - "I guess you can call them social misfits." Brenda - "I know life can be really unfair." Aside …
